 DOCTOR’S ADVICE

As effective as the efforts of our crew may be in creating a comfortable and pleasant atmosphere during the flight, the actual conditions on board can cause some passengers discomfort from time to time. Passengers might feel a tightening of the skin on their face, a tickling sensation in the nose, throat and eyes due to the level of humidity on board; pain or stuffiness in the ears due to the fluctuations in the cabin pressure; dizziness, nausea or stomach aches due to acceleration. These conditions can be further aggravated by long periods of immobility, brought on by sitting for a number of hours at a time. Some experts believe that clots, which form in the blood vessels of the legs, can lead to serious thrombosis among frequent fliers. In order to reduce this risk, passengers are recommended to follow the advice of their doctors:
• choose loose convenient clothes and footwear for the flight;
• drink more water and juice during the flight, try to avoid strong drinks, tea and coffee, as they dehydrate the body;
• avoid smoking because nicotine adversely affects fibrillation;
• don’t surfeit before and during the flight to avoid nausea;
• if you suffer from dizziness try to concentrate on some fixed object;
• yawn or suck a fruit-drop to get rid of the pain or stuffiness in the ears;
• it makes sense to undertake some simple precautionary measures, for instance, to apply some moisturizing cream or nasal spray, the contact lenses wearers should take the lenses out and wear glasses or drip some eye drops, ‘Synthetic Tears’ for example, – all these measures will help you to feel more comfortable and relaxed;
• when on your seat, try not to cross your legs in order not to create additional pressure on the veins, do simple relaxing exercises and change the pose from time to time.
